More options for Bike/ Ped Improvements

Monday, November 16th, 2009

From our friends at the The League of American Bicyclists… It’s great news for all of us and especially good for those who integrate transit with bicycling.

The Federal Transit Administration has published a federal registry notice describing the eligibility of pedestrian and bicycle improvements for FTA funding and proposes a formal policy on the catchment area for pedestrians and bicyclists in relationship to public transportation stops and stations. The proposed policy would expand FTA funding eligibility for bicycle and pedestrian improvements beyond the current threshold distances of one-half mile for pedestrian projects and within three miles for bicycle improvements.

Read the notice and find out how to provide comments.

Twin Cities not “Dangerous by Design”

Walking isn't always as safe as we'd like

Walking isn't always as safe as it should be

Believe it or not, we’re not always riding our bikes… Transportation For America released their report on the most dangerous large metro areas for pedestrians this week, Dangerous by Design. Minneapolis-St. Paul ranked the safest on the list. Minnesota Public radio asked locals their thoughts with a lot of answers on both sides of the table- obviously not everyone out there walking feels safe- and perhaps that’s keeping more folks from choosing walking for all or part of their trips. Find out how your community stacks up here.

Great Fun at the Urban Assault Ride

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Dero Bike Rack lackeys, left to right, Andy Lageson, Mike Anderson, Mark Skoine and spousal unit (behind the camera) Deb Skoine, enjoyed the friendly competition of New Belgium Brewings Urban Assault Ride. Andy and Mike finished a respectable 36th out of 79 teams in the mens division, Mark and Deb finished 12th out of 109 teams in the coed division. The ride combines Beer, Bikes & Big Wheels (definitely not in that order) across the Twin Cities in a wacky scavenger hunt with crazy obstacles at each stop. Good fun was had by all!!! Thanks to Josh, Jackie and Crew at Adventure Fit and New Belgium for a great time.
