Promote Bicycle Transportation

Vote for change in America! President-Elect Obama says he wants to hear ideas from all Americans, so change.org has accepted ideas from the public. The ideas are currently being voted on, and voting ends today, December 31. “Promote Bicycle Transportation,” is currently in 7th place in the Other category, and needs 982 more votes to qualify for the final round. Best Practice Bike Parking in Cambridge

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Dero is proud to be a part of this best practice in secure, long-term bike parking on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)’s Red Line in Cambridge. The above film produced by StreetFilms showcases one of the few unstaffed, secure bike parking facilities linked with transit in the United States. The facility, located at the T’s Alewife station, is a bike commuter’s dream.  It includes hundreds of bike parking spaces, both traditional and stacked Dero racks as well as a secure cage with smart card operation, protective canopy and video monitoring. This marks a fantastic example of a transit agency taking tranporatation planning beyond the transit route to the critical last mile. In this case, the location connects Cambridge and other suburbs as well as The Minuteman Bikeway to the greater Boston area. Unbelieveably, it’s absolutely free to use!

Our thanks to Streetfilms for the great video!

A special Bike Rack Rap

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

In the spirit of the holidays, we want to pass on this song from the Transit Authority of River City (TARC) to educate Louisville, Kentucky residents on how to use the bike racks on TARC buses. We love that the rapper in the video, Mr. Theo, is a bus mechanic as well as a musician.
