Uber makes big investment in employees with new bike storage

The original piece appears on the Bike Pittsburgh blog from earlier this year. If you’re not familiar with BikePGH, head over to their site and check out all the great work they do.

Uber is always working to be ahead of the game — whether it be with business travel, food delivery, or self driving cars, their end goal is to disrupt the marketplace. Cultivating a culture focused on innovation and creativity requires satisfied employees, and with the indoor bike parking facility recently added to the Uber headquarters in Pittsburgh, the employees are certainly pleased.

THE NEW FACILITY INCLUDES:

  • –Covered bike protection
  • –Space for 60 bikes
  • –Storage lockers
  • –Maintenance tools
  • –Heated during winter months

Additionally, the facility is protected with surveillance cameras and a locked entrance. Sweaty after riding into work? No worries, Uber also has employees covered with in-house showers.

They focused on installing bike racks that were made with cyclists in mind, so they purchased the racks from Dero, a well known bike parking company that works closely with BikePGH.

Aaron Doubt, Uber’s Director of Facilities and Special Projects, was very clear in what he wanted for Uber’s facility: efficiency in parking space, quality in products, and timeliness in completion. What he got was just that.

The building only took 16 weeks to finish and is currently at 50/60 bike capacity. This is a great example of an employer recognizing the prevalence of bike commuting and changing the office space to meet an important need.

BikePGH works an Advocate Dealer for Dero bike racks; meaning we can get you competitive pricing, free CAD design and familiarity with a trusted product line. Reach out to us at 412-325-4334 or [email protected] to start the conversation.
